Artist of the Month - June 2017
Lansing resident and artist Tom Cocozzoli, 62, has just graduated from the School of Affordable Art. "Of course the school is mythical and only exists in my mind but I do think it reflects my philosophy towards my art", he says.
Tom has half-jokingly toyed with the idea of calling his current exhibit "A Hand and a Foot” because you don't have to pay an Arm and Leg to acquire art work. Tom is the Artist of the Month at Ledge Craft Lane during the month of June.
"I think there will be something for everyone" he notes. Works from the following collections will be available: Digital Artography, Reflective Art, Other Worlds, PaperKutZ and ArtZenCraftZen. "I'm a bit of a tinkerer, using items from around the house, garage and estate sales plus local craft shops -- trying to keep things from ending up in the local landfill."
Tom is a long-time songwriter and guitarist who has recently found himself moving from aural creativity to a more visual medium. "Music can be quite collaborative, which I love, but it can also be frustrating dealing with people's schedules and practice times. Art for me is basically a solo endeavor, creating it when and where I like" he says.
Now retired from MSU, Tom has also found time to ramp up his craft pieces. Some of those items will be displayed at the exhibition. There will also be copies of Tom's two single-panel cartoon books available. All art, craft and book items will be for sale. "So just bring your hand and foot -- no arm and leg needed for this exhibition!"
The public is welcome to join Tom on Saturday, June 10th from 2-4pm at Ledge Craft Lane for his “A Hand and a Foot” exhibit. (A preview of Tom's work will be from June 1st until June 9th. Items will go on sale at the beginning of his reception.)
