Ledge Craft Lane Art Instructors
Artists of the Month - April 2017
Promoting the arts in Grand Ledge and the surrounding areas is a prime purpose of Ledge Craft Lane. A key part of that endeavor are the five talented artists who train, lead and inspire others interested in bringing art into their lives.
Arlene Bragg, Kim Conklin, Carol Emerson, Kerri Goodman and April Slater are Ledge Craft Lane’s Artists of the Month for April!
For the last twenty five years, Arlene Bragg has been a published book illustrator, has drawn numerous portraits, had many one “woman” shows and presently teaches children art classes at Ledge Craft Lane, Among her students are three Jason Plite scholarship winners. She continues to find fulfillment as a figurative artist while continuing to experiment with new ideas.
Kim Conklin began her painting career 30 years ago and has been teaching classes at Ledge Craft Lane for the last several years. Although most of her work is in acrylics, oils and watercolors, Kim loves working with all different kinds of media. Her favorite art to create is modern abstract with an emphasis on color.
As with the other instructors, Carol Emerson’s interest in the arts began at a young age. For Carol that happened to be in Boston, Massachusetts although she eventually “transplanted” to Michigan. For the past 35 years she has studied art at Lansing Community College, Michigan State University, with Carol Basso, at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France and with artist David Leffel.
Whether it is oils, watercolors, plein air, portraits, nature or candid moments, Kerri Goodman loves to recreate God's glorious beauty on canvas. Always learning, she has taken many classes at the Flint Institute of Arts, along with several workshops with well known professionals in and out of state. Kerri has had the privilege of sharing her passion and knowledge with students at Ledge Craft Lane since 2011.
April Slater is a multi-faceted artist who sees art in everything. She loves the process of taking an idea or an object, working through the design, and watching it come to life as she creates a piece of art. The journey she takes from a thought or photo to completion is fascinating to her.
